Top 5 Skincare Mistakes
It’s no secret that we neglect our skin from time to time. Part of it is due to improper education. So here you go! Consider this your Skincare Bootcamp! No excuses now, ladies :)

Mistake #1: I only need sunscreen when I go to the beach.
This is totally and utterly false! Please lather up as the sun is the #1 cause of aging (age spots, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sagging skin, the list goes on). Also, remember to reapply every 2-4 hours as needed.

Mistake #2: Scrubbing/harsh chemical cleansers will get rid of acne.
Actually, they can make the situation worse and irritate your skin. Instead, adopt a regular routine with the proper products, stick to it, and be patient as in don’t pick. Sulfur, green tea and salicylic acid are my top choices for acne fighters.

Mistake #3: My skin is too oily, so I can’t use moisturizer. Otherwise, it breaks me out.
There is a huge difference between oil and water. Oil is something that your skin creates as a barrier to protect your skin and to lubricate it. It also slows down the aging process, believe it or not! Yes, oil can be an indirect cause to acne as it is sticky and tends to cling to dead skin cells, which can ultimately clog your pores. However, that’s why you exfoliate! Moisturizer, on the other hand, is water and hydrates the skin. Your skin is a living organism, and it needs water to survive. Otherwise, your skin will create MORE oil to compensate for the dehydration. If you skip out on moisturizer, you are really just causing more problems for your skin.

Mistake #4: I don’t need to moisturize my hands, neck and chest.
On the contrary, these areas are often neglected, and as a result, are the first tell-tale signs of aging. It is extremely important to apply sunscreen to the neck and chest as well. So the next time you want to skip out on moisturizer or sunscreen, just think of the “leather-y” neighbor from There’s Something About Mary.

Mistake #5: I’m too tired to wash my face.
Ladies, come on! You can’t complain about breakouts if you don’t do the work. Also, it’s important to really cleanse and massage the face for 1-2 minutes. If you wear heavier makeup such as liquid foundation, then your pores are definitely clogged with makeup. Please make sure to sing Happy Birthday 2-3 times while massaging the cleanser all over your face. This will ensure that you remove all of the day’s makeup and dirt from your face. Here’s a tip to see if your cleansing routine is actually doing the job. Wipe your face with a makeup remover wipe or a cotton pad with makeup remover/toner. If it still has makeup on it, then you either aren’t cleansing your face long enough or your cleanser is too gentle.
