Skin Protection Against Harsh Winters

Easy Skincare Tips

Oil of Olay
Suave lotions
Chapstick
Sadly summer has come and gone and while fall has entered the picture and it won’t be long before winter rears its ugly head. Along with the winter comes chapped lips, pale, dry skin and redness and blotchiness due to the cold. However, there are some quick, inexpensive fixes to protect your skin against the harsh winter winds and keep it healthy year round.

To protect the face, a good moisturizer is necessary and depending on your skin tone should be applied both day and night. I’ve used Oil of Olay (CVS - $9.59) for as long as I can remember and it turns out it’s great for your skin because it contains vitamins and SPF to lock in moisture and prevent damage to the skin and can also be used for those with sensitive skin.

An overall body lotion is also necessary with extra attention paid to the rougher areas of the body such as the knees and elbows. I’ve found that by applying lotion directly after showering, it allows for the lotion soak in more thoroughly. Suave lotions can be found at Target stores usually for $2.50 and under and have many varieties to choose from including shea butter which is used to nourish the skin and prevent the dryness that winter can bring.

Lip balm is also a necessity to prevent chapping and damage to the lips. There are several products that can be used as both a salve for the lips and face, but Chapstick’s medicated line is an easy, inexpensive solution for chapped lips while also adding a slight sheen and hint of color.

It’s cool because all of these products can be found at any drugstore and go be used as an inexpensive arsenal to protect against the coming winter months. The key to beating the winter skin blues is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
