How to Cover Up a Sunburn
How to Cover Up a SunburnWell Taazies, it happened. I got the raccoon eyes. Memorial Day, laying by the pool, slathered in suntan lotion and my oversized shades and after hours and hours (and hours!) I ended up with a sunglasses burn, er, tan ala Kim Kardashian. I am naturally tan, but there's a difference even in my skin from "winter tan" to "summer tan" and now my face has both. So, until the tan fades and I look normal again, here is what I have to do:
Step 1: MoisturizeThe tip of nose got a little red, so I applied soothing aloe vera. Also, after my face has gotten too much sun is when I use a much gentler facial cleanser like Cetaphil that will feel better on my newly sensitive skin. I then double up on moisturizer, at least for a few days. If my skin is really dry, the moisturizer will literally soak in within seconds. If that happens, then I will apply a thin, second layer.
Step 2: ConcealBecause my face is now two-toned, I have to use a bit more product than I normally like to use in the summer. My nose is the reddest, so I swipe concealer down the center and smooth it out along the tip to reduce the shiny Rudolph red. One makeup trick I've seen is to form a sort of triangle of foundation that goes from your nose to under your eye to your cheekbone. This is also the area that is the lightest from where my sunglasses were protecting my skin, so I apply foundation and blend, blend, blend. I still dust on bronzer to really bring out the tan I did get.
Step 3: SimplifyI keep the rest of my makeup fairly simple, especially since I now have extra color to my skin. I use a bit of blush on my cheeks and a gold shimmer on my lids. I end with a brown eyeliner, mascara and lots of Vaseline on my lips since my lips got sun chapped, too! Instead of looking like lobster, I now look just like any other girl that has spent some quality time at the pool.
Be careful out in the sun this summer and whatever you do, make sure to reapply that sunscreen and don't forget your face! Next time, I think I'm going to wear sunscreen, sunglasses AND a hat!
