Best Hair Removal Methods
Ways to get rid of unwanted hair
When it comes to body hair, most women would rather go without. Fortunately, there are a number of great hair removal options out there, which can be tailored to specific needs and budgets—and help you say bye-bye to unwanted hair.
SHAVING
The cheapest, easiest, and most conventional of the hair removing methods, shaving involves lathering the skin and running a razor across, to cut the hair at the top level. Pros include the tiny price point and quick application. Cons include the incredibly short hair-free period, as hair is rather quick to grow back and leave unsightly stubble—sometimes in mere hours! Want to get the best shave of your life? Take a warm bath, lather skin with body wash, and use a loofah to exfoliate. This will open up pores and eliminate any dead skin standing between you and the razor.
WAXING
Another common hair removal method is waxing, which involves applying a warm wax to the skin, followed by a cloth strip. After waiting for the wax to cool—about thirty seconds or so—the strip is then yanked, taking all unwanted hair with it. Waxing can be used on any part of the body, and can be done in a salon or at home. The only downside is the pain experienced during the actual pulling of the strip, since the wax removes hair from the root—but you know what they say, beauty is pain. The results will last much longer, meaning less trips to the salon.
THREADING
A technique that places its origins in the Far East, threading is a method of plucking the hair out from the skin by looping fine threads around each hair and tugging gently. Threading is said to be more precise and less damaging than waxing, though some people find it significantly more painful. Threading is not as common as waxing; finding a salon that does it may prove challenging in some areas, but it is quickly gaining popularity. The threading results are comparable to those of a wax, since this method also involves pulling hair out by the root.
LASER
Laser hair removal is a fairly new technique which involves the localized targeting of hair follicles to inhibit hair production. The area to be treated is zapped with a special frequency of light that destroys the hair follicle. Over time, clients will see less and less hair regrowth. The benefits to laser removal lie in its lasting power and ability to actually decrease hair growth, while the consequences include a stiff price tag and potential irritation.
