Skin Care and Hair Care: Changing Your Routine

Switching Hair and Skin Care From Summer to Fall

As the weather changes, so does your skin and hair. Products that work for summer might not be the best option for fall and winter. The elements change the suppleness of our skin and the texture of our hair. We deal with conditions like oilier t-zones and sun damage to both our skin and hair. Also, in summer, it’s easier to get away with less makeup because we are getting more natural color from the sun.

Therefore, as the weather changes, so should our skincare routines. In the summer, go-to products for the skin may include: bronzer, sunscreen, powder and lip gloss. Facials and deep pore cleansing masks are more important because of the sweat and build up our faces endure. For fall/winter, a gentler facial product can help soothe wind chapped skin while also keeping it moisturized. Masks with nourishing ingredients like avocado and oatmeal are perfect to help restore dry winter skin to a softer condition. Our makeup palettes change as well with darker lips for more festive looks and rosy cheeks for an in-from-the-cold look.

As far as hair is concerned, detangling spray and healthy conditioning is important. But when the winter starts to make our hair feel more straw-like and full of static, oil and/or conditioning masks on a weekly basis helps keep hair healthy and shiny. Typically, we wear our hair up more in the summer to keep it off our necks; so if you tend to wear it down more often during the cooler months, you want to make sure frizziness and flyaways are kept far away.

You don't have to buy a completely new skincare regimen to make it through the changing seasons, but there are certain products that you'll want to add to make sure you are providing your skin and hair the moisture you need. What are must-haves for your skin and hair when temperatures start to drop?
