Embracing the Olympic Spirit With Metallics

With the official start of the Olympic Games, you can’t help but be in the medal-winning mind. And what better way to embrace the spirit of the games than with a fashionable interpretation? Ralph Lauren designed the uniforms for the opening ceremony. As pretty much the representative of All-American fashion, who else would’ve been a better choice (Tommy Hilfiger, maybe?).

But of course, my mind immediately turns to something a bit more glitzy, which is the coveted gold medal that every athlete strives for. There are many ways to wear gold especially through the end of summer and into fall; metallics rarely limit you and never let you down.

Nail polish is a beautiful, yet subtle way to interpret the gold trend. It’s a step up from the standard neutral, but probably goes with everything you have in your wardrobe right now. Essie’s Mirror Metallics has the trend covered with their gold, shimmery “Good as Gold” shade. But if you’re feeling a cooler tone, than “No Place Like Chrome” is a good runner-up.

A gold blouse might seem too glam for the everyday work week, but paired in the right way it can be a chic spin on a professional look. Pair a gold, silk blouse with a pantsuit - shorts suit, if your dress code allows it - and a pair of Mary Jane heels. Or, go sleeveless with a gold, button-down shirt and pencil skirt for a work look with polish. By making gold an accent and not the main piece of the outfit, you can keep it conservative enough for the office.

And of course, gold accessories are the easiest way to incorporate the color into any outfit. Gold instantly warms up a look and goes perfectly with fall colors especially deep reds, browns and purples. But, don't be afraid to mix and match your metallics and wear your golds with your other jewelry pieces. Next on my list is a gold, cocktail ring; a classic, statement piece.

Hope you enjoy watching your favorite athletes bring home the gold!
