Discover the Newest Fragrances for Fall
By definition, a fragrance is composed of several notes, all blended together to form a single, distinctive, sensory impression. Available in many different general families, with varying levels of concentration, there are literally hundreds of thousands of blends on the market.
As the color palette for fall warms and deepens, so does the scent palette. For definition’s sake, an Oriental is composed of warm notes, typically a contrast of a fresh top note to a rich base.
Thierry Mugler Angel Eau de Toilette is a powdery, gourmand (food-inspired) oriental. The fragrance opens with bergamot and pink pepper, which is slowly replaced by praline and dewy red fruits. At the fragrance’s base are notes of patchouli, cedar wood, vanilla and white musk. Angel EDT is a sexy, mysterious, intoxicating scent for the sophisticated woman.
One of the largest categories, a floral scent can be based around a single flower, or an entire bouquet. There are many different types of floral scents, with fruity ones being the most predominant.
Oh, Lola! is a young, fresh, fruity floral scent from the Marc Jacobs fragrance house. On the list of notes are raspberry, vanilla, peony, pear, and cyclamen, all ingredients that would not be uncommon in your favorite recipe. Oh Lola! is bright, bubbly, juicy, and flirtatious—qualities that make it the perfect scent for a girl about town.
Coach Poppy Flower is a fresh floral with a citrusy opening, featuring wet ivy, black currant and litchi fruit. At the heart of the scent is jasmine, rose, water lily, peony and sugared raspberries, while at the very base of the scent are notes of amber wood, sandalwood, apricot skin and musk. With its fun, lighthearted characteristics, Poppy Flower would do well with the adventurous set.
Ange ou Demon Le Secret is a floral composed of cranberry, green tea, white peony, sambac jasmine, blond wood and white musk. Ange ou Demon Le Secret is a fruity floral with a light, wonderful, delicate freshness to it—perfectly suited to the sexy, seductive, stylish woman.
A chypre is composed of citrus, floral, moss, and wood.
Bottega Veneta, the first fragrance from the classic fashion house, has just released a scent evocative of rich, lush, decadent sensuality. A leathery, floral chypre, Bottega Veneta features notes of spicy pink peppercorn, citrusy bergamot, lily of the valley, jasmine, leather, patchouli, and oak moss.
One last thing to keep in mind, when shopping for fall fragrances, is that you may want to opt for an EDP (12-20% concentration) over an EDT (8-12% composition). EDPs will generally last longer, and smell stronger, which ensures that your scent will shine through no matter how many sweaters you wear.
This fall, don’t just look your best—smell your best, too, with all of these enticing new aromas from some of your favorite fragrance brands.
