Ombre hairstyle may be the “it” beauty fashion trend, but it doesn’t mean that ombre has to begin and end with hairstyle looks. A fun way to spice things up this coming season is to try out the individualistic and artistic “ombre nails” look. You don’t have to use the same colors as in the photo—any other combination of glittery/shimmery colors may work as well! It’s a fun and relatively simple look that will get your friends wondering how you instantly became a nail artist!

Step 1: Prep your nails with a base coat.
I always wear a base coat on my nails to help prevent staining from polish colors. Especially if you’re wearing darker colors, it’s always a good idea to prep your nails with a base coat.
Step 2: Begin by applying the same base color on all nails.
Be sure that the original base coat is dry before doing this. After painting all nails the base color, allow a few moments to dry before moving onto the next step.
Step 3: Taking the second color, deposit a few drops of the polish onto a disposable surface.
By disposable surface, I’m referring to things such as business cards, pieces of paper, etc. This will allow you to throw everything away and help prevent messes to be cleaned up.
Step 4: Dab a sponge into the polish and pat about two-thirds of the way up from the tip of the nail.
Remember that this is a gradient, so try to not use too heavy of a layer. Next, you’re going to allow the previous layer to dry before repeating the process—this time, going up halfway. The last layer will be solely concentrated on the bottom tips of the nails.
Step 5: Once the previous layers are dry, use a topcoat to seal the entire nail.
I find that a good way to speed along this process is to soak my fingers into a bowl of icy cold water. This helps the polish to harden up and dry faster!
