A Guide to the Hottest Nail Shades for Spring and Summer in 2012

Fashion Week 2011 Nail Trends
Ladies and gentlemen, fashion week is here! That means we are jumping ahead and having a look into the crystal ball to predict the hottest looks in beauty and fashion for the Spring and Summer 2012 seasons. First up, a look at nails!

In general, trends seems to be steering away from nail shades of a darker persuasion in favor of the soft, airy, and pastel hues that mimic spring’s fresh blossoms. Here are a few of the hottest shade trends, as seen on the runway:

Whether it’s putty, beige, or soft shades of grey, neutrals continue to be a major runway nail trend. Perfect for those who want to look put-together, while still bringing the focus to makeup or clothing, a soft shade of beige, nude, or even a sheer white can be very lovely indeed. To get the look, opt for a color that closely mimics your own natural skin tone. Two coats should be all you need to get a look that shines.

If there is one thing that is synonymous with spring, it’s the resurgence of pastel color palettes. From cotton candy, to lavender, to buttercup yellow, soft pastel shades are especially lovely against spring’s light colors and lighter fabrics. Getting the look is as easy as picking your favorite pastel polish and applying three even, opaque coats.

Last, but certainly not least, the spring and summer will see a revival of shades that can only be described as pineapple, mango, guava, and melon. Like a tropical fruit basket, the tropically colored nail provides vibrancy, life, and color to any environment it inhabits. Perfect for those who crave nails that demand attention, the tropical punch nail provides just the right amount of pop against a light color palette. As with pastels, achieving this nail look is as simple as painting three even, opaque coats of your favorite fruit-inspired shade.

For spring and summer, ditch the dark nails—and reach for your favorite nude, pastel, or punchy hue instead.

I love all nail polish and think all the colors just cycle around. Though I love seeing when new lines debut. Did ya hear that Nicki Minaj is coming up with an OPI line? This comment has been removed.

I'm so glad to hear that the new Spring colors are allowing for more than just the neutrals & nudes. I just can't get used to my nails being the same color as my skin tone. Give me a splash of color any day. This comment has been removed.
