How to Keep Your Makeup Looking Great All Day

makeup-tricks
My biggest pet peeve is probably spending a good deal of time putting on makeup for an occasion during the evening, only to find my makeup looking less than ideal only halfway through the day. This is especially a problem for me because I tend to have a slightly oilier t-zone, which makes it a lot harder for makeup to stay put. So how to you keep makeup looking good and fresh throughout the day?

For those with oily skin, translucent powder is a must. This is not to say that you need to use it everyday—but for those days when you want to keep the t-zone matte and shine-free, it’s definitely worth investing in a translucent powder. After applying foundation, I sweep a bit over my t-zone, chin, and finish off with a light dust on the forehead. I really like Make Up For Ever’s HD Translucent Powder…it works great and lasts forever!

Prime your lids if you plan to use shadow. Why? Not only do primers help keep your eye shadow on for hours on end, it also makes it a lot more vivid and pigmented. The cult classic is Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, but I’ve found that MAC’s Prep and Prime for the lids works just as great, and lasts forever.

If you are curling your lashes, heat your lash curler with a blow dryer. I’ve found that the heat definitely helps retain the curl in my lashes a lot better than without the heat. Just hold a blow dryer over your lash curler pad for 10 seconds before curling. My favorite lash curler is by Shiseido.

For eyeliners, opt for gel or liquid. They tend to be more longwearing and have more waterproof variety to get you through any occasion. Bobbi Brown carries some great gel liners that I absolutely love!

When applying lipstick, blot a bit of translucent powder between applications. This helps retain the color and prevent lipstick from bleeding! I also like to double-proof my lips with liner beforehand for those occasions where I’m wearing bold colors.

Great tips! I agree, nothing more annoying than spending time on your makeup only to find it rubbing off a few hours later. It's all about the prime & prep :) This comment has been removed.
