Makeup and Hair Embrace a Military Spirit for Spring

Military Inspired Makeup
Thanks in part to designers at Chloé and Celine, a recent resurgence of military-inspired fashion necessitates military-inspired makeup—and we’re not talking about copious amounts of camouflage, girls.

To build a look around fashion's military trend, try deep olive, army green or khaki eye shadows accented with shimming gold (or a light beige-y sand shade that calls to mind the Sahara desert). Go light on the liner and generous on fresh-faced cheek color (think sheer peach) and glossy nude lips. Chunky gold earrings will reflect light and call attention to your dazzling features, while a bevy of gold bangles worn on your wrist will add a finishing touch and complement your makeup.

Braids are a catwalk favorite and they were piled high at Alexander McQueen for spring 2010. To complement military-inspired makeup and fashion, wear an untamed braid slung low and loose over one shoulder. To style: let your hair air dry and embrace your natural wave or curl, then create one large braid that starts below one ear. Fasten with an invisible elastic and pull out a few face-framing pieces for a purposely messy effect.
