Step 2: MAKEUP FOR AN OVAL FACE

An oval face shape is a study in symmetry: eyes separated by an eye’s length, a forehead wider than the lower face and a bone structure that works with just about any makeup look. Many women use highlight and contour techniques to achieve the look you possess naturally. Accentuate your ideal features by sweeping bronzer or a slightly darker powder in a “3” shape from forehead to cheekbone to chin. You can pull off the latest trends and be fearless about color, so be encouraged to play around with different techniques.

Step 3: MAKEUP FOR A ROUND FACE

It’s all about creating the illusion of length for you. Focus on playing up one feature: eyes or lips. A bronzer can work as a contour when applied to the temples and underside of the jaw line. Sweep your blush just beneath the cheekbones to “sculpt” them, or apply it directly to the apples of the cheeks to accentuate their perfectly pinch-able shape. Bear in mind that brightly colored blushes will emphasize the round quality of your face. If you apply them in upward strokes this will give a slimming effect.

Step 4: MAKEUP FOR AN OBLONG FACE

This face shape gives you plenty of surface of area to play with makeup, so try new things often and choose your colors carefully. Contour your hairline with bronzer—from temple to temple—to minimize a prominent forehead. Use blush to anchor your face, preferably a neutral one that goes with anything since you’re going to want to switch up your palette depending on the season. Extending your eyebrows outward toward your temples will soften angular features.

Step 5: MAKEUP FOR A HEART FACE

Heart shape faces possess prominent cheekbones. If you want to accentuate them, wear a brighter blush and lipstick paired with a neutral eye. If you want to play down your cheeks, wear a neutral matte blush and light glossy lip. Heart shaped faces typically look great in a classic 1940s-inspired color scheme. A red or berry lip color and light cherry blush put the finishing touches on this of-the-moment look. A strong black or brown liner and white or beige eye shadow palette is also no-fail.

Step 6: MAKEUP FOR A DIAMOND FACE

Use makeup to brighten the center of your face. A lighter liquid foundation or highlighting powder will help you achieve this effect with ease. Apply it to the forehead, bridge of the nose and center of the chin to spotlight your favorite features. Using a bronzing powder or slightly darker foundation, contour the peak of the forehead, tip of the chin and underside of the cheekbones for maximum effect.

Step 7: MAKEUP FOR A SQUARE FACE

Put your best face forward by softening your features with the right makeup techniques—for instance, try using rounded strokes and techniques and always blend with care. For your prettiest look, contour the back of the jawbone and the underside of the cheekbones with a bronzing powder and apply blush in a rounded shape on the apples of the cheeks.
