My list of things to do included cleaning out and organizing my closet. But it didn’t occur to me that maybe I needed to clean out and refresh my makeup supply. I rarely do this. Typically, I let all my products pile up in one big bin with just my necessities in my makeup bag. However, after going through everything I had, I realized that a lot of that stuff was dying to go.

Case in point: old makeup brushes. You know the blush brushes that come with the compact? I don’t ever like to use those but I can’t bring myself to throw them away. Therefore, they just get old and covered in makeup and end up in corners of makeup bags. I threw those away and then cleaned the makeup brushes I do have, which doesn't take any time at all.

I also threw away old blushes and eyeshadows that were on their last legs. Sometimes you buy a color and think it will look great and it doesn’t, but you don’t take it back so it sits in your beauty bag used only a few times. Or, you use up the very last of your blush except for those small pieces left in the corner. Those also went into the trash.

I checked old mascaras and nail polishes both which get a certain gunky quality about them if too much time goes by. Also, I looked for duplicates in polish. Sometimes I choose nearly the exact same color but different brands and I know I don’t absolutely need them, so I share them with friends. I do this with lip color too. If I try a new lip color once or twice and see the color is not me, I give it to someone else.

Clearing out the clutter and finding all the makeup coupons that I had stored away let me do an inventory of what I have, what I need and what I have room to want. I now know that everything in my makeup bags is something that I will at one point in the near future be wearing.
