Runway Makeup Looks to Master in Time for Spring

Fashion Week 2011 Makeup Trends
Gone are the deep, dark, and inky makeup looks that rule for the fall and winter seasons. Spring and summer 2012 will be all about flawless, dewy skin, and bright pops of color. Let’s have a look at some of the hottest trends that graced the runways during fashion week, and briefly discuss how you can get the look at home.

If this season’s runway looks were any indication, the warmer seasons will be all about flawless, radiant skin. Model’s complexions were first perfected with foundation, and then contoured and highlighted to create the perfect canvas.

To get the look at home, first begin by laying down your primer of choice, in order to prep the skin for all the products you will apply to it. Then, select the best foundation that will suit both the finish you are after, and your particular skin type. As a rule, a cream foundation is great for oilier skin and full coverage, while a liquid will provide desired levels of coverage for those with normal to dry skin. A powder is best for light coverage on those with normal skin. Finish the look with a soft, matte bronzer in the low planes of the face, and a light-reflecting highlighting powder on the cheekbones. With that done, your face will be a canvas rivaling that of any model.

As one makeup artist backstage put it, next season will be all about the brows. Big, bold eyebrows are making a huge comeback, as made apparent by the myriad of models rocking dark, full brows.

No matter your hair type or color, a bolder brow is easy to accomplish. If you are worried about shapes and straight lines, a brow stencil would be a great investment. Get the look by setting the stencil against your own natural brow, and filling the brow in with the powder or pencil of your choice, in a shade that closely matches your own hair color. Set with a brow gel or wax, and you are good to go.

Another hot trend is the bright, light, dewy eye. Light reflecting shadows and pigments were very popular for creating a brilliant, wide-eyed effect.

This look can be achieved with a number of different products and formulations. Anything from a shimmering beige primer to a gold eye shadow can be used to not only make eyes appear more awake, but also larger.

Not one to be ignored, the bright lip will be making a comeback in the spring. From sheer stains to full-on matte opacity, the runways were awash with pink, coral, and crimson pouts.

How you wear a bright lip is completely up to you. To rock a pop of color on the lips, first decide which shade you would like to go with. With your perfect shade in mind, select a gloss or stain for a sheer finish, or choose a matte, cream, or satin lipstick for a finish that packs a bit more drama. Paint your pout, and then rock out with a beauty trend that will never go out of style.

The hottest makeup looks for spring and summer of 2012 all feature flawless faces and bright accents of color. These tips are something to keep in mind for next year, as we begin to prepare for the fall and winter seasons ahead.

@sooozie translucent loose powder will take out the shine! You use it to set your makeup and throughout the day to control T-zone shine. This comment has been removed.

I'm always looking for ways to get a "dewy" look. I end up looking a little shiny instead. Suggestions? This comment has been removed.

Good call on brightening eye primers! I just tried Bare Escentuals gunmetal the other day and layered it with a bright blue eyeshadow. It looked amazing! Urban Decay has a great gold primer too. This comment has been removed.
