Creating a Makeup Base With $3 Products

elf concealer
A few weeks ago I posted a deal for e.l.f. that had free shipping with a $15 minimum. I was in need of makeup, so I thought this was quite the deal - and it was! I bought five items for $15 and came away with makeup I needed at a low cost. I had never previously tried any of the products I bought, but for $3 per product, I felt the risk was worth it.

Undereye concealer and highlighter in Medium - Concealer is a must for me and a good concealer is the difference between looking tired and appearing ready to take on the world. I experimented with the highlighter because I haven’t used one before, but I was impressed with the results. I tapped the concealer in dots right under my eyes and gently blended with my fingertip. Then, I made a wider arc under my eye (and under where I put the concealer) making dots and blending the highlighter. The result: a more wide-eyed, brightened look. The product went on smoothly and lasted through the day.

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder - Everyone should have this product. It’s a great 2-in-1 compact providing what you need for a healthy, summer glow. I was impressed at the smooth finish the blush left on my skin. Be careful when applying the bronzing powder because the first application can show up color heavy. The trick to contouring and blush though is to blend, blend, blend.

Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Almond - This product works best for me if I squirt some on the back of my hand first and then apply to my face and blend. It’s not my favorite product, but is still is nice to have SPF included to wear outside. It’s good in a pinch, but I feel there are better tinted moisturizers out there - still searching for the perfect one.

2-Piece Foundation SPF 15 Set - I’m a big fan of mineral foundation and this one works well. The product comes with powder and brush and blends fantastically leaving a light finish. If you are looking for more coverage, I wouldn’t recommend this product. But if you want a lighter coverage for summer, then this is perfect.

Lash Extending Mascara - This mascara comes with an angled brush that makes it easy to apply and guides your eyelashes to slightly curl. The product doesn’t lie in its naming; it really does extend your lashes! For mine, it created such length that I have to keep my eyes open for an extra second or two to dry because if I blink, then mascara gets on my face. Tip: To dry mascara faster, just hold a blow dryer on the cool setting in front of your face with your eyes closed for a few seconds.

Can’t wait until the next great e.l.f. deal! Which products have you tried from the e.l.f. collections?

That reminds me! I need to use an ELF Groupon that I bought. Can't wait to get brushes and maybe that highlighter/bronzer duo - reminds me of Nars ;) This comment has been removed.

I tried their blotting papers and am curious to try some other products because of the great prices! That concealer looks good! This comment has been removed.

I'm a fan of elf brushes but have yet to try any of their products. The undereye concealer and highlighter might be my first purchase though, as dark circles are a problem for me. Thanks for the review! This comment has been removed.
