How to Wear Colorful Eyeliner

Colorful Eyeliner
It's all about bright colors this spring/summer! Use a colored liner rather than black to add some color in a simple and fashionably fun way.

Bright, colorful eyeliner is a trend that is taking over the runways and the red carpet.

A colored liner can transform your entire makeup look. Black liner can sometimes look too heavy. Changing it up by wearing a colorful liner will add color without adding heaviness to your eyes.

Dab a light concealer onto your eyelids to even out the skin tone. Line your upper lash line as close to the lash line as possible, and create a small "wing" at the outer corner. Repeat this until you get the desired thickness of the liner. You can also use the same colored liner on the inside rim of your eye.

If a less dramatic look is what you are going for, use a pencil liner. Pencil liners go on thin and are easier to control. If you want a bold, night-time look, makeup artist Lina Hanson recommends using a gel liner. "Gel liner goes on smooth and you have more control of it. Just dip a very thin brush or slanted brush in the gel liner and apply."

Be cautious when pairing bold liner with the rest of your makeup. The eyes should be the focus of the overall look. Keep the lips neutral and give the cheeks just a hint of color with shades of rose or pink.

I like the glycerin idea! I've heard that it also works for eyeshadow primers? (the powder kind) This comment has been removed.

^I do the same thing. I personally prefer vegetable glycerin. It works great and apparently you can also use it as a sweetener in foods/drinks? hahha This comment has been removed.

You can also create your own color liner with pigmented eyeshadow powder. You need glycerin, which you can get at a drugstore (or Wal-Mart carries them) for cheap. You want to water down a tiny amount of glycerin so that it's not super sticky and dip your liner brush in the mixture and then dab it into the eyeshadow powder. Then apply. I love to use color liner (especially electric blue) on my waterlines to give them extra emphasis. Urban Decay makes some wicked color liquid liners. If I'm correct, MAC also offers some that work really well...haven't tried them but definitely want to check them out. This comment has been removed.
