Confessions of a Mascara Two-Timer

As I've mentioned, I'm extremely picky when it comes to my mascara. I don't know what it is, but my mascara needs to glide on a certain way and the wand has to be easy to manage. Oh, and there cannot be a SINGLE clump or I'm wiping it off and starting all over again. I told you, I'm a little crazy about mascara.
Maybe it's because mascara is my absolute favorite piece of makeup. It adds so much depth to the face and can really make or break an entire look. Sometimes, when you only have five minutes, a little mascara can make a world of difference. It's all you need. It's like the superhero of makeup.
Anyway, after years of mascara trial-and-error (and a drawer full of really expensive counter mascaras that just weren't for me) I ended up boycotting every brand but my favorite, L'Oreal Telescopic. The skinny wand, the rich, clump-free black color – it was my everything and I swore I'd never stray. We were so happy together.
Recently, however, another mascara caught my eye: Benefit's “They're Real!” mascara ($22). I was tempted at Sephora by the shiny silver tube, the quirky name and the promise of longer looking lashes. A strong endorsement by the sales associate swayed me and before I knew it, I was cheating on L'Oreal Telescopic. The shame!
But luckily, this indiscretion was well worth it. I've been applying “They're Real!” for the past three weeks and have never gotten so many compliments on my eyelashes. Just like the package says, I've seen a dramatic increase in length and volume and visible lift with every application. The special brush curls lashes as it glides, so there's no need to use an eyelash curler beforehand. Plus, the jet black color is extremely long-lasting.
The Sephora associate told me that the best way to apply this mascara is to position the wand horizontally and wiggle from side to side, base to tip, until you achieve the desired effect. I've gotten great results using this technique and have started incorporating it into my daily mascara ritual. It works!
So there you have it, ladies. My confession: I'm a mascara two-timer.
I can't help it, “They're Real!” is a serious temptress. I have now decided to divide my attention by alternating from L'Oreal to Benefit every other day, and so far, it's working out. Neither mascara is mad at me. There's enough lash to go 'round.
Are you a mascara two-timer too? What are your go-to mascaras?

I go back and forth between MAC mascara and L'Oreal Voluminous, so I'm a two-timer too! LOL. I need to try this one though! :) This comment has been removed.
I am too! Actually, I use the Maybelline Falsies and sometimes I use the Coverlgirl Volume Exact every other day, but on important occasions, I use the Mac zoom lash!! So many options! This comment has been removed.
Wow I definitely wanna give this one a try! I just tried Benefit's primer, and I'm in love. Otherwise, I haven't really tried the brand. This comment has been removed.
Hmm, I've been in the market for new mascaras as well. I love this "confession." :) I just bought a new Smashbox mascara that I like because of the brush. Maybe this one will be my next choice to try. This comment has been removed.
I have it too and love it! I use my Shiseido eyelash curler first and the mascara looks amazing! The only thing I noticed was it was just a bit harder to remove, (I use Lancome eye makeup remover).....but hey, who cares! The mascara is fabulous! Thanks for the article! I'm a loyal Maybelline Great Lash user, but I must admit I am now tempted to try this mascara! Maybe when my current tube runs out... This comment has been removed.
