Beauty Products to Create an Avant Garde Makeup Look

Paperself Falsies
Coastal Scents 88 Original Palette
Oh how I love makeup! It’s the perfect mode of expression (besides fashion of course) and should never be taken too seriously. After all, a makeup brush is just another tool to create art with, and a face is merely its canvas. I love how makeup artists, particularly those who specialize in avante garde makeup, blur the lines between fantasy and reality. Therefore, in ode to these artists, I’ve listed a few of my favorite avante garde beauty products and trends. So what if they will never be mainstream? Its all for the love of art, right? Next time you reach for your usual makeup products and colors, I hope that you think of this article and it inspires you to try something daring and out of your comfort zone!

1. You can’t go wrong with a FABULOUS pair of falsies. It’s even better if they’re multi-colored. Make Up For Ever offers a gorgeous selection from edgy to soft and playful. Lately, I’m tempted to buy a pair from Paperself, which are inspired by Chinese paper-cutting. I may need to rock the “deer and butterfly” faux lashes soon.. very soon!

2. Gaga for eyeliner - She is the ruling queen of eyeliner these days. Proof is in her music videos... Judas, Born this Way, need I say more? Here is a makeup tutorial that features winged liner, gold tears and a faux “Monroe”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ex8UWva_CPc

3. Harajuku - There are so many different looks from this category. However, to start with, every aspiring Harajuku girl needs lots and lots of eye colors! A friend of mine who is also a professional makeup artist tipped me off to Coastal Scents. Good quality and colorful palettes! The 88 Original is AMAZING!

@anniehsieh practice does help, but remember it's makeup. It's supposed to be fun and playful, not perfect ;) This comment has been removed.

Wow thanks for sharing this article. I think this would be a pretty nice concept for a theme-party or even dressing up for Halloween...and it definitely seems like you need to spend a lot of time practicing in order to get the look down! This comment has been removed.
