The smoky eye is the go to for every gal who wants to add some drama to their makeup and play up their look with extra color and extra attention to detail. Fortunately, the smoky eye doesn’t have to be limited to just a dark navy blue shadow. You can use whatever color complements your skin tone and makeup skills. In my case, a bronze shadow works much better.

I have smaller eyes and my application of dark eye shadows ends up being too dark and too much for my face. It’s more punk rock than glam girl. But, a smoky bronze eye is something that I have come to love and is fairly easy to do even for a makeup “learn as you go” type like I am.

I have an eye shadow kit that has 50 colors and for day to day, I use neutral tones like tans and creams and a few darker coffee colors. For this look, I use a shade that is called “Glittering Sand” and is a darker brown color with shimmery gold added in. When applying for a smoky eye, I usually prime my lid first and sometimes, I dampen my eye shadow brush to let the color glide on. The wet-looking finish allows for more color to be applied and the good news is that if I apply too much, I can blend it out with the lighter colors.

To line my eyes, I use Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. It’s dark, thick, and creates a nicely blended look for the lash lines that will stay on for hours without smearing. I typically apply to my lower lashes and lightly blend with my finger as to not create such a severe line.

For mascara, I use What’s Your Type “The Body Builder” black mascara. The brush is my favorite part of this product. It grabs hold of my thin, short lashes and really gives them body and makes them look full. I wiggle my lashes through as I apply and usually only have to use one coat. If I want to add extra color, I will add a colorful mascara to the tips of my lashes.

The application for this smoky eye is easy and if bronze isn’t for you, you can choose any shadow or eye liner color that you love. These three beauty products work best for me in combination when I’m looking to put on a “fancy face.” What's your makeup plan this NYE?
