I know that this is a website designed to help women explore different looks, give beauty/fashion advice, and encourage others to try out new styles. But I think it’s also interesting to explore why it is we do what we do—namely—that is to say, to pursue beauty and reinforce our values of what it is considered “beautiful.”
On one hand, we have the scientific studies claiming that there is the notion of the “ideal” face. The study determines that the more original image of faces are juxtaposed (where the features are averaged), the closer to the ideal beauty the averaged face will become.
This is really rather interesting, especially for those who argue that beauty is completely a social construct. What we deem as “beautiful” this century or even this decade may not prove to be a physical trait valued in the next.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you believe that there is a form of “ideal beauty”? Or is it simply a social construct? Or perhaps a mixture of both?
