My Style: Old School Siren

Folks, welcome to the first of many posts featuring street style, trends, and fashion in general. In this edition, we have “Steal My Style” -- a post whose focus is on one iconic look, how I channeled it, and how you can snag the look for yourself. First up: the old school siren.

The siren is flirty, sexy, coy, and sophisticated. When she steps into a room, all eyes are on her—and that is just how she likes it.

The right outfit choice for a siren is an ensemble that is both flattering and form-fitting. To channel my own inner siren this past New Year’s Eve, I went with a cap-sleeved, fitted dress in an attention-grabbing red. Since my dress had a slightly retro feel to it, I opted for fishnet stockings and suede, peep-toe stilettos with a red-accented heel and platform. The outfit was retro through and through.

For accessories, I stuck to the classics. A pearl necklace and delicate pearl studs were glamorous, without being overwhelming. Pearls are perfectly suited to command attention, without being overly obnoxious.

Last but not least: the makeup. I went with soft, golden smoky eyes and a pale nude lip. Had I not been going to dinner, I would have chosen a high-maintenance red lip, to complete the siren look.
