Red lips is classically bold and timeless, and the patent red-lacquered lip is the go-to trend that will set your look apart. Whether you look best in a deep plum red, a coral red, or a vermillion red, this look is adaptable for various shades for different skin complexions. It’s a makeup look for any special occasion…so find your favorite red lip color and try this look for yourself!

Step 1: Begin with a matte foundation finish.

One of my favorite new products is the BB cream, which I like to use either by itself or to prime my skin before wearing powder foundation. Apply a dime sized primer or tinted moisturizer of your choice and let it set for 5-10 minutes before working a powder foundation into your skin with a kabuki brush. Step 2: Define your arches.

Create the perfect arches with a soft pencil or brow powder the same shade as your hair color. If you’re using a brow pencil, soften the look by brushing a disposable mascara wand through the brows. This will prevent your brows from appearing too harsh and overpowering your look.

Step 3: Create perfect definition on the eyes by lining the top lids.

If you’re going for a softer look, use an eye pencil to line the lids. I like Urban Decay and Make Up For Ever because their eye pencils are resilient to smudging after hours of wear. If you’re looking for a more retro or pin-up look, use an angled brush and a gel liner to line the lids. Finish by curling the lashes and applying a single coat of lengthening mascara.

Step 4: For the lips, begin by lining with a red pencil in a shade of your choice.

Lining the lips is really important whenever you’re wearing a bold glossy color, as lip gloss tends to bleed and smudge. Follow up with a coat of red or clear gloss, and you’re ready to go with your classic red-lacquered lips makeup look!
