How to Dress for a First Date

3 Outfits for Your Next Date

date
Summer fling? Back-to-school sweetie? First dates can be a little nerve wracking, but they don’t have to be, especially if you’re loving what you wear. But what are some good choices when you’re meeting someone for the first time? Here are some ideas to get you started:

Coffee date
Busy schedules can call for shorter meetups. Chatting over coffee can be an ideal first date. You can get to know each other and also get your caffeine fix. A casual date doesn’t have to mean an unstylish one. Pick your favorite pair of jeans - boot cut, colored, skinny - and pair it with a trendy top with cutouts. Cutouts in the shoulders or sleeves or even one in the back can be sexy without showing too much skin. Add on a few thin bangles, slip on your favorite boots or wedges and you’ll be ready to go.

Dinner and drinks
This is the classic date choice. Although this is a more “formal” choice for a date than getting a coffee, you still want to dress in the way you feel comfortable. A maxi dress is a great idea because you can layer over it with a cardigan or blazer. Pair with sandals and you have a comfy, yet chic outfit for date night. Stilettos always make me feel more confident, but for a first date, I’d suggest a more pared down look.

Movie/Concert/Sporting Event
If you’re going to something super casual and will be there for more than a couple hours, you want to make sure you’re wearing shoes that are comfortable. You don’t have to wear your gym sneakers, but Converse shoes or motorcycle boots are a good alternative that will still give your date outfit some style. My advice for “event” dates is to keep the outfit simple but pile on the accessories: bangles, scarf, hat or chandelier earrings - or, depending on your outfit, all of the above!

The point of the first date is to be comfortable in your own skin, so you don’t want to wear something that is going to make you squirm all night. Dress like the best version of you!

Thanks for the ideas. First dates are always hard to plan for. Remember always pop a mint in your mouth before you leave the house. You might look really hot, but if your breath isn't good, it's all not gonna matter. This comment has been removed.

Typically, I go for edgy or menswear, so I've been trying to wear more girly outfits. I love the moto jacket with the dress and bow, peep toe heels!!! This comment has been removed.
