If you’re opting for a French Maid costume this Halloween, take your makeup and hairstyling cues from sex kitten Brigitte Bardot . The goal is to look like you just emerged from the boudoir of a glamorous Parisian boutique hotel. Hair should be alluringly disheveled and makeup should be heavy on the eyes. Conversely, you can rock extreme makeup colors (try lime green lids) and a pinup inspired updo.

For a low maintenanceFrench Maid look, keep your hair loose and sexy. Wear it down with extra volume, which you can achieve with extra large curlers, or pin it half-up with tendrils cascading around your face.

Smudge a black kohl pencil liner into your lashline. Rim the entire eye and just when you think the look is dramatic enough, create even more drama on the lower lashes with additional liner. Finish with false lashes and several coats of black mascara.

Nude lips are a more modern take on this age-old sexy Halloween costume. Forgo bright red for a barely-there sheer color that won’t leave a trace on your boyfriend’s collar.

A French Maid costume is not for wallflowers, so don’t be shy. Paint on a faux mole below your eye or just above your lips (a small crystal will achieve the same effect glued to the face) and break out the fishnets and sky-high stilettos. The more glamorous your costume the better, since holding a feather duster in public (a key element of this costume) is never really chic. –Stephanie Simons
