Tips to Choosing a New Hair Color

Thinking about changing your hair color? There’s a few things to keep in mind before you go completely drastic or even if you’re only planning to add in a few highlights. Take it from someone who has had many a hair color mishap to tell you how to learn from my mistakes.

Tear out pictures that you admire. If you admire a certain celebrity’s hair, then tear out several different pictures from magazines so your stylist can get an idea of what you like. However, keep in mind that the celeb you choose to imitate needs to have at least a similar skin tone and hair shade.

For subtle shade changes, at-home hair dyes are a good, more inexpensive way to go. You only want to go up or down a few shades and don’t try anything drastic. If you’re a dirty blonde and want some lighter color, choose a brighter blonde shade but don’t go as extreme as platinum. If you’re a mousy brown and want more of a chocolate color, then it can be a drastic difference to you, but it easier to do and maintain at home.

If you are looking for stronger changes like ombre or light highlights in dark hair, then I say choose a good stylist. Let them know exactly what you want so they have a direct idea of what you’re looking for. The good thing about the pros is that they can pair the right color for your hair and skin tone so it doesn’t look like a big mistake you made at home.

Of course, first, give yourself a makeover here on Taaz. Upload a picture with your hair pulled back and try on different hair colors to get an idea of what you like. You’d be surprised at the range of shades that would look good on you. I just got caramel highlights right around my face. It’s just enough pop to be distinctive, but since my hair is black it doesn’t look like too much of a clash and won’t require too much maintenance. But you better you believe I left my hair in the capable hands of a licensed stylist!

I really like coloring my hair (professionally) a little more on the drastic side and then watching the progression as it fades out. People are always telling me "did you dye your hair? love the new color" Gotta hand it to my hair lady This comment has been removed.
