Tips on How to Grow and Maintain Healthy Hair!
The average hair growth rate is 1/2 an inch per month. Some people have a quicker growth rate, whilst some people have a slower on. Although the hair growth rate cannot increase tremendously, having a healthy diet, drinking lots of water, exercising and massaging the scalp help a lot.
When trying to grow long hair, the important thing is that you maintain your hair as well as possible, so that the hair that grows will not have to be cut off from the ends - otherwise you will never see your hair getting longer!
In order to maintain healthy hair, you do not need to spend lots of money on expensive products. The most important products at this point are the shampoo and conditioner. You have to invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner, which you could purchase from a hair salon - not a grocery or a pharmacy - the reason being, salon-products contain much better ingredients than those off the shelves. They cost a bit more, but they are so much more worth it! .. It is important to buy the right shampoo/conditioner for your hair type. If you are unsure of your hair type, ask the hairdresser at the hair salon for a mini hair consultation before purchasing ur shampoo. It is useless buying good-quality shampoo/conditioner which are not for your kind of hair!
Instead of using a hair conditioner, a hair mask may be used alternatively. Hair masks are more moisturizing as they contain richer ingredients. They are super for very dry, brittle hair! --- This is why you need to know and understand your hair type before purchasing products.
Another imp thing to do to maintain ur hair, is to give ur hair lots of moisture. This means, after shampooing ur hair, towel dry it, THEN apply the hair conditioner/hair mask on ur hair! By doing this, you will be removing the excessive water from your hair, and so the conditioner/hair mask will penetrate deeper into ur hair cuticle!
Leave the hair conditioner/mask on for a few minutes. 5-20 minutes should do the trick ;) , then rise it off properly.
It would also be good to use a hair treatment once a month. If perhaps it is too expensive, you may also do a home remedy treatment, which contains natural ingredients! :) ... heat some olive oil in the microwave for a few seconds, and apply it onto the ends of ur hair BEFORE shampooing! Mayonaisse and egg white are 2 other ingredients which are very rich in prodtein and moisture, and are therefore very beneficial for the hair. Some people find this disgusting, and to be fair, the mayoinaisse does smell a bit funny in your hair even after shampooing the 1st time lol, but hey! the hair really benefits from them! :))
After the cleaning process is done, it is important to comb your hair using a WIDE-TOOTHED comb. Using a brush or a small comb will only tear and damage the hair cuticle! When the hair is wet, it will be in a very fragile state, therefore you need to handle ur hair very gently! If you need, use a leave-in conditioner spray. ---- Never sleep with your hair wet, because with the movements you make in bed, you may cause hair breakage since the hair will be moving against the pillow!
Try not to blowdry / straighten ur hair so often.. Instead, try to make the most out of ur natural hair! If you still want to blowdry or straighten ur hair, make sure to use a heat protectant before!!! VERY IMPORTANT!
Try to keep back from doing harsh chemicals such as permanent straightening, perms, and highlights (with bleach), as they will dry out the hair since they contain strong chemicals. Hair dye is not as bad, if mixing and applied correctly.
In summer, it is very important to use a sun block in your hair, and a sun cap! Try to avoid wetting your hair in sea water, and even more in clorine water, as these all dry out the hair tremendeously! summer is a tough month, and ur hair will be begging you for moisture!
... another tip is... trim your hair! You are supposed to get ur hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks.. My advice is, if u r trying to grow ur hair, trim ur hair as often as u need it! be honest to yourself though. If you feel like u can afford 8 weeks before ur next cut, then do so. however, its better trimming ur hair regularly, but only trimming off just the tips of ur hair !
Hope these tips have helped you! Good luck and Happy Growing and Maintaining!! :)
