How to Trim Your Own Bangs

Easy steps to trimming bangs

Believe it or not, trimming your bangs is something that can easily be done yourself with a bit of patience and practice. Since my hair tends to grow out rather fast, I always find it unnecessary to have to go back to my hairstylist and pay money to get re-trimmed every 3 weeks. Why not just do it myself? Here are some of my personal tips on how you can trim your bangs at home:

Step 1: Wet the section of your bangs that you are going to trim.

This will really help straighten out all the kinks in the hair so you can be sure you’re evenly cutting your bangs evenly. Comb out the section with a straight-tooth comb.

Step 2: Cut your bangs at about half of an inch longer than your desired length.

Use your index and third finger to grip the sections. Simply use your shears (actual hair shears are better than paper scissors) and cut straight across. Go slow and keep the line as straight as possible.

Step 3: Begin trimming little portions at a time, holding your shears vertically.

This will soften up the edge so you don’t have the harsh ends (unless you’re going for the blunt bangs look). Cut little bits at a time to make sure everything looks even.

Step 4: Once you get close to your desired length, dry your bangs with a blow dryer.

This is important because out bangs will definitely look different when they are dried—so you want to finish your last touches by trimming your bangs when they are dried. Continue snipping little bits vertically until you have achieved the desired volume and length.
