Most women spend their entire lives waging a war on an impossibly stubborn enemy: frizzy hair. Ironically, the things we do to combat frizz can actually worsen the condition. Flat irons and straightening chemicals damage the cuticle causing it to swell open, become porous and look "roughed up." For a lifetime of frizz-free hair, the goal is to smooth the cuticle without causing damage. Always treat your hair like silk and follow these tips for your smoothest (and shiniest) hair ever. Prevent frizzy hair by using a deep conditioning treatment weekly. Keratin-based formulas will strengthen the hair to help it resist breakage.Sleep on a satin pillow case nightly for smooth locks or slip on a satin bonnet to smooth the hair and maintain its style. Brushing your hair with a boar bristle brush also works to smooth the cuticle and redistribute oil from your scalp.
Shampoo only twice a week to maintain the hair's natural oils, which help smooth frizz. Use a shampoo and conditioner for your hair type that's packed with smoothing ingredients like silicones. Leave your conditioner in for at least five minutes whenever you wash, detangle it with a wide-tooth comb and towel dry your hair gently (with an absorbent microfiber towel) and without friction so you don't rough up the cuticle.
Rub a dime-size dollop of anti-frizz serum through your hair before you blow dry. While blow drying your hair, point the nozzle down the hair shaft and use a nozzle attachment and big round brush to smooth your hair until its dry. An ionic hair dryer reduces frizzies by compressing the cuticle.
For your smoothest hair ever, finish with a shine spray, not hairspray which can cause the cuticle to swell. Spray a small amount directly onto your palms and smooth it all over the hair gently (without flattening the style or root lift you worked so hard to achieve).
