4 Things to Consider Before Changing Your Hair

Ready for a New Hairstyle?

Are you thinking about changing your hairstyle? If you are bored with your cut or color and want to try something new, there are some things to consider before making any drastic changes.

1. Make sure the color you want is good for your skin tone. While golden blonde might look good on your best friend, it might not be the same for you. Keep in mind an idea of how you want your hair to look, but remember that shades will vary from person to person. Taaz’s makeover tool is actually a great place to get started when choosing color.

2. Choose the right haircut for your face shape. Ever since my mom accidentally cut my normally long hair to a shoulder length style when I was in grade school, I have never had it cut shorter than below the shoulders. I have a round face and very thick hair and a bob cut just didn't look right on my particular face shape. I know longer layers work better at slimming my face.

3. Go for small differences first. If you are thinking you want to switch up your look, go for it a few steps at a time instead of all in at once. Want a color change? Try highlights. Want to change your hairstyle? Think about adding bangs or layers before chopping it all off.

4. Pick a good time for a change. The new year is upon us and it’s a great time to start anew with your style. I wouldn’t recommend too big of changes if you have family photos scheduled or weddings or other important events to attend. If you end up not liking the result, then you'll be anxious about your upcoming events.

However, when it comes to your hair, don't be afraid! Changing your hair cut or color can be fun and liberating! If you choose a hairstyle adventure that doesn’t go quite as planned, remember it will grow back and emergency colorists will be available. Are you thinking about new hair for the new year?

Thanks for the article...I cringe when I think back to all the grade school haircuts my mom gave me. On top of it, she used arts & crafts scissors. This comment has been removed.
