Get your sexy on in a tousled, highlighted hairstyle that mimics the effects of the Southern California sun without the damage. Try on surfer girl hair now.
Protect your hair from the slings and arrows of the sun by using products with built-in sunscreen and put an SPF lotion on your hairline, lobes and back of the neck to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. In a pinch, lip balm with sunscreen will work to treat these often neglected areas.
Deep cleanse your hair once a month to remove build up and always rinse with warm (never hot) water, followed by a finishing shot of cold water. Try a clarifying oil (Aveda makes one) or make your own formula by combining equal parts baking soda and shampoo. Let it sit for five minutes.
As a general rule, don’t wear a hooded sweatshirt when getting your haircut or anything that prevents your hair from falling evenly down your back. Also avoid crossing your legs while the stylist is cutting and smiling while she’s doing up your bangs.
When blow drying use a vent brush to get maximum volume. You can hold your head upside down while drying it for extra lift, but be sure to blow the air down the shaft of the hair to prevent fly-aways. --Stephanie Simons
