The Uggly Uggs or No-Uggs Debate

Wear Them or Not?

Chestnut Ugg Boots
We’ve all seen it—or been there ourselves: those days when we wake up late with 2 minutes to spare for getting ready before having to rush over to class or work. Instead of wasting time on presentable clothes, we don on some loose sweat bottoms, pull over a sweater, and then slip into our Uggs…ahhh those comfortable, loyal Uggs that will never betray you even in the coldest of weather.

Problem is, the moment you step into public and make first contact with your female friends, you are at once bombarded by looks of sympathy that seem to scream “What a pity, she’s totally embracing the whole homebody look today.” The thing is—those evidently big, brown, fluffy boots are not making you any less noticeable. And so goes one of the common associations when it comes to wearing Uggs.

Now, this is not to say that Uggs are, by standard, ugly no matter how you wear them. In fact, I’ve seen many girls dress them up in a simple yet tasteful fashion—skinny denims worn with a red plaid shirt, and paired a suede vest with accents of fleece fur. However, it’s when Uggs are abused in the previously stated fashion of sweats and sweaters (and yet, still be considered by the wearer to be “cute”) that becomes a problem.

I am, for one, a creature of comfort and would buy myself a pair of Uggs if it actually got cold enough in the warm city I live in. And yet, it’s the whole common association with a shabby out-of-bed type of look that has me thinking twice.

Thoughts, anyone?

If weather permits and with chic winter attire ;) But I'd opt for boots! This comment has been removed.

Although I will admit, I have pulled the lazy look with sweatpants, a hoodie, and UGGS--but only around the house! This comment has been removed.

I remember when girls at school first started wearing UGGS...with denim miniskirts! It looked ridiculous, and made me completely against owning a pair. Then I moved to New York and it was freezing--I totally caved. They're just so warm and comfy! But I agree with @Italiana11 they are not meant to be worn with shorts or skirts.
