What's Hot in the Southern Hemisphere

It's safe to say that fashion is a universal language, and one extremely talented woman in South America speaks this diva dialect fluently.
Cue my friend Camila Herrera, a 20-something-year-old fashion designer living in Santiago, Chile, who co-owns a hip, trendy clothing company with her sister called “Tienda C.” The storefront – which operates heavily through Facebook, taking orders online from interested customers – targets the ever-changing, modern fashionista and is always one step ahead of the latest style trend.
From prints to patterns, from striking colors to shoes, Tienda C has street fashion down to a T – a very fashionable, fitted tee, that is.
I visited South America last March and got to observe street style in Chile firsthand. I was impressed by how fashion-forward young adults were in Santiago. I'd describe the overall fashion vibe there as “urban chic” – well put together, young, fresh and totally attainable.
But it was Camila's fashion savvy that made an indelible mark on me. Her personal style is best described as a mix between trendy and bold, with classic elements woven in. She's never afraid to try a trend, whether it's printed pants or oxford shoes, and she exudes confidence and style with every outfit. That's the point of fashion, right?
One of my favorite looks from her closet is this navy polka dot mini dress – as seen here in the photos – with that light denim button-down shirt. The belt gives the dress shape and the shirt makes the entire look casual and comfy. I also think she kills it in the high-waisted floral print shorts and long- sleeve shirt. There's a feminine charm with the ruffles and flowers, and I like how she combines the trendy shorts with a classic, off-white top that can be worn with practically anything.
I'm also a fan of her printed pants, scarf and vest get-up. Printed pants can be hard to pull off, but she gets it so right with the neutral top and pop of matching color from the scarf that ties it all together in a seemingly effortless way.
Clearly, Camila and Tienda C continue to set the bar high for modern fashion in Chile. She has some serious street style and is not afraid to show it. Life is a runway, ladies. Model through it.
