And the Best Dressed Goes To...

Julia Roberts
  • Julia Roberts
  • Halle Berry
  • Michelle Williams
The Academy Awards air this weekend and just like other fashion lovers everywhere, I am very excited to see who shows up wearing what. There are certain dresses that become iconic and some that are total flops. No matter what though, celebrities step up their game come Oscar time just in case they get to take home a coveted golden statue.

Some of my favorite looks of the past have been:

Julia Roberts winning for Erin Brockovich in 2001. She wore vintage Valentino, a perfectly elegant choice. Her hair was pulled away from her face in a modern updo and since her smile is her best accessory, she kept her makeup fresh and simple. The dress wasn't your average black and white look - the piping gave it dimension, the tulle made it whimsical. When wearing a vintage style like she did, minimal jewelry is best so the dress (and the celebrity) can shine on their own.

The following year Halle Berry won the Oscar while wearing Elie Saab. The gown had a deep wine-colored skirt with a sheer top embroidered with flowers. This unusual style, though not typical of the red carpet, looked remarkable on her. Although her fashion choices usually borderline on risque, there are dresses that only she can pull off. And, this was one of them. The rest of her look was kept low key with her no maintenance hairdo and her always amazing, glowing skin. She mixes just the right combination of sexy and sophistication into her style year after year.

Michelle Williams at the 2006 Oscars turned heads with her mustard yellow Vera Wang gown. While originally I wasn't a huge fan, this dress really was a statement in fashion from her. She took a fashion risk and owned her bold style by topping off the look with deep red lips and a romantic hairstyle. The gathering and cinched in waist of the gown fit her perfectly and she looked elegant, graceful and edgy all at the same time.

When Oscar night arrives, I expect big things from the ladies of The Help this year as well as all the heavy fashion hitters: Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Winslet as well as those mentioned above. Who are you looking forward to seeing on the red carpet?
