Mad About Plaid
3 ways to wear plaid shorts
I bought a pair of plaid shorts similar to the one in the photo at Old Navy during their $1 flip flop sale. They were on sale, too - for ten bucks! I don’t typically wear a lot of shorts, but the colors and print of these shorts can be worn so many ways that I instantly had a new staple to add to my summer wardrobe. Ideas for how to wear them:
Pair with a bold color. The color you choose doesn’t have to be completely matching, but it does have to be complementary. Depending on if you want to bring certain colors to the forefront, then highlight those with a similarly-colored shirt. You can go preppy with a green polo and t-strap sandals in a neutral color or be flirty in a one-shoulder hot pink shirt and wedges.
Add a crisp, white shirt. A plain white tee, tank top or button down can create a classic look. Pair with flats or flip flops for an easy, summer look. The shorts themselves are a statement piece, but if you want some adornment, add a gold bib necklace or an armful of thin, metallic bangles.
Pick a structured jacket. Pair the shorts with a jacket with ruched sleeves (I saw some great ones at Charlotte Russe) and a pair of your favorite heels. If you wear a neutral color shoe, it will elongate your legs, but again, don’t be afraid to pull colors out that are subtly interlaced within the plaid pattern.
I usually don’t wear shorts nor do I typically wear plaid, but the combination for this pair of shorts was too hard to pass up. Especially since I’ll be able to get so much wear out of them with items already in my closet.
