3 Ways to Add Fashion Layers

Layering is one of the many perks of the fall/winter season. You can mix and match clothing and create new outfits just by adding or taking away a layer. While blazers and cardigans are some of my favorite layering pieces, they aren’t the only ways to update your look for the season. Here are some unexpected ways to layer your look.

Wear something sheer. Sheer isn’t immediately what we think of when it comes to dressing for colder weather, but there are ways to achieve the look and still stay warm. Wearing a lacy camisole under a sheer, full-sleeve blouse is a sexy way to amp up a traditional look. Choose a warmer color like forest green or cranberry for a festive look. Or, choose a plaid (yes, I have seen sheer plaid shirts, and they are really cute) or printed button-down for something more casual.

Tights and shorts. I love wearing colorful tights with both long and short skirts during the colder months. But there are fantastic, dressier shorts in lace, satin and even sequined fabrics that can look fancy when paired with tights. If you are not complementing the color of your tights with your shorts, then wear something on top that pulls the whole look together. Another fun trend is wearing tall, thinner socks over tights. Think brightly colored tights + paisley printed socks for a cute look with some added fun.

The henley tee. The henley tee is the perfect layering piece and you can buy multiples in different colors because they are inexpensive. They don’t add bulk, but they do add warmth when you want to layer on a jacket, vest or sweater. A plain, oversized henley can be given a pop of extra style with funky leggings and cool mid-calf boots.

All of these layering ideas can serve as both functional and fashionable additions to your wardrobe this season. Layering also doesn't limit you, but instead, expands your clothing options. Allow your shopping list to include: one sheer item, a couple pairs of tights, dressier shorts, and a henley tee and see what combinations you can come up with. I bet you can plan outfits for the entire week!

I am all about layering here in Colorado! I love the really thin turtlenecks under sweaters and tunics. Scarves and tights are a must for me too! Thanks for sharing! This comment has been removed.
