How to Shop for Sunglasses
Big and square sunglasses, preferably in heavy metal or plastic, lend your look a bit of that "society swan" flair Jackie O was famous for. Rock them with a head scarf when you want to keep your habits under wraps and out of the tabloids.
A more modern take on Jackie O sunglasses (inspired by retro trends) are thick, cat-shaped glasses that point upward at the outer corners. The more plastic the merrier as these sunglasses look way chic in shades of yellow, green and even watermelon. Color is key.
Aviator sunglasses with wire frames (think bright gold or silver) are all the rage for wannabe rock stars. They look especially flattering on heart-shaped faces since they help to balance out the bottom of the face. This style goes with anything, making them a chic, functional alternative to enormous logos and over-the-top Swarovski crystals. If you don’t like bling, but adore looking the part of a rich girl, these are your shades.
When heading to the Hamptons or simply looking the part, opt for beige frames (no color is the new black). Other options? Citrus hues that call to mind tart candies or tradtional tortoiseshell frames. As for shape, go for P-3s, which are perfectly round save for a little wing. The look is utterly 80s paired with a preppy sweater around your shoulders. --Stephanie Simons
