Dress Up Your Hair in of-the-Moment Accents

Holiday Hair Accessories
Why should fir trees get all the glory and glamour this season? Add a few ornaments to your holiday hairstyle to make your look festive in a flash. These tips will keep you from appearing under-dressed (yawn) or overdecorated (gasp!).

"Accent your sexy holiday party hairstyle with unsual accessories of the moment."

Don't just accessorize, excess-orize: that is, find chic in numbers. Get party-perfect hair by placing a series of sleek, simple clips at the front of your face (shown here). This trick works on pin-striaght hair or a headful of ringlets.

Since a little glimmer goes a long way, scale back your jewelry when wearing hair accessories. A barette or hair clip should be worn in lieu of earrings or even a necklace. If you love bling, keep it to your fingers and wrists instead.

Keep things unexpected to make an impact. Wear a thick headband near your hairline, instead of pushed back at the crown, for a high fashion effect.

One barrette is boring; two adds visual interest when they don’t match perfectly. Pin back the hair behind your ear with two small clips that are similar, but not the same, or opt for the new chain barrettes, which look refined—not too girly-girl (score your own on the cheap at Forever21).

If you’ve got curly hair or a round face, avoid any hair accessory that's too big (it will appear to add volume, which you don't need). A simple metal comb or headband will contrast wild hair or cherubic features.

Make your own hair accessory by tying a piece of lace around a simple ponytail or placing a jeweled brooch that you already own in your hair (instead of on your scarf or jacket lapel). --Stephanie Simons

Interesting ideas...I do think that this takes a lot more of a skillful eye to coordinate to the point where it look slightly 'excess-orized' but not overdone. This comment has been removed.
