With the recent news of Jennie Garth splitting from her husband, I couldn't help but feel empathy for the former Kelly Taylor. Kelly Taylor was one of the iconic castmates of the epic show of the '90's that was the original Beverly Hills, 90210. I was devoted to this show until it's final days and even relived through reruns on SOAP Network. Aside from the addicting drama, it embodies 90's fashion at its finest: ripped jeans, plaid shirts, teased hair, off the shoulder dresses. The 90's were like an afterthought of the vibrant 80's mixed with a little bit of grunge, grit and glam.

Guess jeans were the big trend of the 90's along with Z. Cavaricci's, but it wasn't the style unless you had them ripped. Whether it was holes in the knees or slits in the thighs, a torn jean was a well worn jean. The style can be interpreted today in a bit more hipster sort of way, with less noticeable holes and well thought out roughed up edges. Roll the jeans at the ankles or wear them skin tight and you've found your way into the 21st century.

Plaid shirts were also seen everywhere paired with long, cutoff jeans shorts or babydoll dresses and ankle Doc Marten boots. It was comfort and grunge rolled into one. Although that trend is still popular among some, the more flattering look is a fitted plaid shirt with sparkly button embellishments or a plaid dress paired with a funky belt. Doc Martens are long gone; only to be replaced with a cute wedge or a pair of basic flats.

When it comes to the hair, it still gets teased, but not to the extent that the 90's embraced (unless you're a Jersey Shore reality show member). The teasing is less of the bangs and more at the crown to give hair more volume and oomph. It provides a good texture to the hair and adds style to an otherwise plain ponytail or pulled back look.

Finally, off the shoulder sweatshirts were a big fashion must in the 90's and I may have cut up a few myself back in the day. To bring the trend up to current times, a one shoulder dress is very popular and flattering on most shapes. The bare arm makes a simple dress sexy to create a great look great on anyone.

So, even though Jennie Garth is currently making gossip headlines due to her personal life, it's her television life (and 90210 fashion) that lives on!
