Famous Fashion Designers Create Merch to Support Barack Obama
&Quot;runway to Win" Collection Includes Styles From Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenberg
Today, a project called “Runway to Win” launched online. It's a campaign spearheaded by famous designers like Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch and Diane von Furstenberg in support of the re-election of President Obama in 2012.
Designers like the aforementioned – plus a slew of other big names (Rachel Roy, Jason Wu, Tracy Reese) – have created shirts, totes, scarves and other fashionable items in support of Obama's re-election campaign. The items are available for pre-order as of today at www.runwaytowin.com, with the political fashion line officially launching February 7th.
All proceeds from the pieces will be donated directly to the Obama Victory Fund, a fundraising committee authorized by Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee.
The “Runway to Win” collection includes a very cute red, white and blue canvas tote bag by Tory Burch ($75), a long-sleeve shirt with a tiny patriotic bird on it by Jason Wu ($55) and a bright American flag tote bag by Diane von Furnstenberg ($85). There's also a vintage-inspired cropped sweatshirt by Tracy Reese ($85) featuring the Obama logo and a T-shirt by Marc Jacobs ($45).
More designers – including Vera Wang and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs – are slated to introduce their pieces in the coming weeks.
So, fashionistas, what do you make of this new “Runway to Win” collection for Obama's campaign? It's a interesting way to fuse fashion and politics, right? The pieces are hip and modern, and it's neat to see the idea of political support taking on a different, much more stylish route.
Which piece would you most want to get your hands on?
