How to Help Your Guy Pick Out Professional Wear

Fashion-savvy men everywhere don’t have nearly the options that we women do when it comes to wardrobe. But men have a lot to consider when putting together an ensemble especially when it comes to looking professional. A businessman will want to look savvy and smart, bold and in charge. But, how to achieve this? There are limitations, but there are also Do’s and Don’ts for men to keep in mind when they are getting dressed.

Do iron your clothing. Nothing is worse than seeing a man in a wrinkled outfit. Even if your guy is wearing khakis and a polo shirt, then need to be properly pressed. Nothing says unprofessional like wrinkled wear.

Do find the right fit. An ill-fitting suit is a main fashion faux pas for men. If a suit is not properly cut or tailored, it can make a man look bulkier and just plain sloppy. Just like we are searching for the jeans that are the perfect fit, a man should look for a suit in the same way. It's a wardrobe staple to be worn often and so careful thought should be put into the selection.

Don’t wear brown with black. Nothing looks worse than a beautiful, black suit paired with ratty, brown shoes. It doesn’t go together. The brown shoes stick out like sore thumb and really brings the look down a couple of notches. The suit can easily become “cheapened” when paired with the wrong shoes. Men should make sure they’re matching and shined.

Don’t wear too many prints at once. I love when men wear prints and bright colors, but too many at once can look messy. You don’t want thick, horizontal stripes in a tie, if you’re wearing a pinstriped suit. It’s too busy and too distracting. Make sure the patterns and colors make sense and work well together.

Do help your man go shopping. You can give an honest say about how you think the suits fit, how it looks and how it can be improved. Don’t shoot down your fellas choices, but if he asks for your fashionista eye to help, lend a helping hand.

What tips would you give a man when shopping for suits?

OMG what's up with guys wanting to wear bigger clothes? Although I don't like them wearing skin-tight clothing either! This comment has been removed.
