What to Wear for the Holidays

Whether you still have a holiday party to go to or you are preparing for a festive New Year’s Eve, then you should keep in mind some fashionable tips to keep things classy rather than make a fashion faux pas that will end the year on a bad note.

Do go for a bright color. If you want to feel festive, then red is the color of the month. A true bright hue or a darker alternative like oxblood or mulberry will work well for any occasion. Red surpasses the effect of the LBD for this month due to its time-appropriate tone.

Do add some shimmer. You can use your favorite bronzer or a light shimmery skin dust, but don’t go overboard with the glitter. It should be just a small amount that can be caught in the right light not so much that your sparkle will be blinding.

Do be pretty in a ponytail. A formal holiday event might make you think you need an elaborate updo or a pricy blowout to make it feel special, but a simple pony can work just as well. Make it tight and sleek or loose and curly; add a ribbon or even a headband to give your plain ponytail a little something extra.

Don’t go too tight or too short. Yes, feel free to show some leg in your fantastic party dress, but don’t let what you’re wearing creep up so far that people are constantly shielding their eyes for fear of being flashed. Plus, too tight and too short = too tacky.

Don’t freeze for fashion. Baby, it’s cold outside! There are plenty of ways to look fabulous without wearing something uber skimpy. Add a pair of tights, a cute jacket or fancy shrug to give your look some layers to be both fashionable and warm.

Don’t feel pressured to buy something new. If your budget has been saved for gifts, then “recycle” your wardrobe and wear one of your favorite outfits in a new way. Or, buy an inexpensive piece of jewelry to pair with it to make the outfit pop.

Celebrate the holidays in style!

Thanks for the wonderful tips!!! If there's ever an excuse to wear red-it's now. Did you know you can get a shampoo & blowout/style at a cosmetology school for $10!!! The schools are open everyday, but Sunday until 10pm. Find one in your area on YELP. This comment has been removed.
