Tips for Wearing Winter White

Fall-2012-Trend-Winter-White-Outfits
The fashion rule of not wearing white after Labor Day has long been broken, but people still are often on the fence when it comes to wearing the color when it’s not sunny and warm out. White in winter can look chic and sophisticated when worn in the right way. And, it can add lightness to an outfit that might otherwise include only darker, heavy-looking colors.

The first thing to remember when wearing any color is that fabric plays a big role when determining if it is seasonably appropriate. When wearing white, light cotton material is better left for summer while soft cashmere or silks can work better for winter. White is more of an unexpected color for winter, so your appearance when wearing it can be a fresh surprise or serve as an accessory color to your wardrobe.

A white cowl neck sweater looks fantastic paired with a dark pair of skinny jeans and a cute pair of flats or brown, knee high boots. The contrast of light and dark makes the outfit wearable for colder weather, but still striking because of the softness white can bring to any look.

A white, long-sleeved silk blouse paired with a dark pantsuit or a pencil skirt and tights can also exude a chic style that is easy to put together and can be a perfect outfit to wear to work when everything else just feels like heavy layers.

Not quite convinced? A cream-colored peacoat or off-white wool trench is a fantastic choice when it comes to what winter coat to choose. It looks elegant and dressy whether you are going to a holiday party or just out for cocktails with your friends.

White doesn’t have to be stored away for summer. You can wear it out in winter, but keep it looking bright and crisp and replace any items that are stained even slightly. Let me know if you will dare to wear white this winter!
