It's been said that one of this spring's trends is black and white which made me scratch my head because it's hardly a new concept. Black and white is timeless because the classic color combination looks good on everyone. It can be worn in several different ways and work for several types of wardrobes. I can't really get behind the fact that black and white is "new" for spring, but here are some possibly new ideas in which to wear it.

Black and white doesn't have to be color blocking only, graphics are a great way to wear the look. Dramatic lines can make the look trendy and unique. You can go horizontal, vertical or zigzag with stripes for jackets, dresses or shirts. Don't be afraid of stripes when trying on clothes but be aware of which stripes are best for your body shape.

I also love a shorts suit for spring and one in black will carry your wardrobe a long way. By pairing with white and sequins or a little sparkle really makes the look polished, but still can be professional. A longer jacket paired with a loosely tucked in suit keeps the look from being too stuffy. Black and white needs to look downtown cool or uptown chic and not fall in the middle or it might start to resemble that of a cater waiter.

However, if you are going to wear a jacket with black or white piping, take a fashion cue from Olivia Palermo and go shorter with the sleeve length or add a feminine bow. A black and white jacket can be a spring staple and worn with a variety of tank tops or camisoles underneath to take the outfit from work to happy hour. The beautiful all white look paired with black jewelry is also a great take on the trend. It's fun and flirty and looks perfect.

The black and white combo is definitely not "new" but I'm glad it's in for the season. What do you think of the style? Classic or boring? Trendy or too safe?
