Color Fashion Trends at Last Night's Awards

I couldn’t find a dull moment in fashion at last night’s American Music Awards. For a music industry event, the style seems to be a bit more carefree and daring and the ladies showed their fashion forward outfits on the red carpet last night.

Color made a splash for many of the ladies who mostly steered clear of the safer black and white trends. Carrie Underwood looked stunning in a sweeping plum-colored, lace gown. The high collar and longer train gave the look a more Victorian feel, but she kept it modern with the beautiful, purple color and loose hair. This look is more covered up compared to what Carrie typically wears, but the ladylike look works for her, too.

My favorite woman on television right now, Kerry Washington, also made an appearance at the awards show as a presenter. She went the route of lace as well, but in an eye-catching goldenrod color. The long sleeves and tea length of her dress are coordinated with a melon color of pumps. However, the looser fit of the dress overwhelms her petite frame a little bit. I would’ve chosen a smaller size for her or shorter sleeves. But regardless, she looks gorgeous as always.

Actress Eden Sher showed up in bubblegum pink for her red carpet appearance. The cutout top of her dress adds a stylish element to her look and it was smart to pair with nude pumps. But her look, while on the brighter side of color, was a bit too plain for me. Also, I feel beachy waves would’ve been a better (if not predictable) option versus her Heidi-esque braids.

What did you think of the color trend from last night’s awards?
