How to Do Your Hair and Makeup Like Reese Witherspoon at the 2011 Oscars

Hollywood’s sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon, made a dashing appearance at the 2011 Academy Awards. The A-list celeb shined in a strapless, white-and-black Armani Prive gown and retro-inspired hair and makeup. While the emerald green jewelry sure was eye-catching, we couldn’t stop looking at Reese’s mod ‘60s-style ponytail and dramatic eyeliner. Want to achieve Reese’s look? Keep reading to find out how to make it yours.

Always be sure to exfoliate your skin on the days leading up to a big event. Give your skin rest from heavy products, and indulge in a hydrating serum both the night before and the day of the event. Opt for a tinted moisturizer or, if you need more coverage, use a liquid foundation, and apply a face shimmer (try Benefit’s High Beam). Use a blush in a rose hue, and apply it to the apples of the cheeks, sweeping it across the cheek bones for a delicate touch of color. Use a frosted-pink lip color to dress up the lips.

To recreate the starlet’s eye makeup, take a taupe eye shadow and apply it from the lash line up to the crease, stopping there. Next, take a black kohl liner and create a cat-eye shape by lining the upper lid, starting at the center of the lid and growing thicker as you move to the outer corner. As you draw your liner out, be sure to create a winged end. Use the same liner to line the outermost corner of the eye, smudging it with your finger. Take the taupe eye shadow and use this to line the rest of the lower lid, smudging it as well. Use a pearl shadow to highlight the inner corners of the eyes and the brow bones; this will make the eyes pop, giving them the appearance of being bigger. Apply a full set of lashes to the top lid, getting as close to the lash line as possible. Curl lashes, and add two coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

Reese’s hair was among the most talked about styles on the red carpet. To get this glamorous, über-chic look for yourself, give volume to the mane by blow drying hair with a large round brush. Separate hair into two sections, top and bottom. Use a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron to create soft waves on the bottom section. Tease the top section to create volume at the crown of the head. Gather both pieces into a high ponytail, making sure to preserve the volume at the crown, and secure with an elastic band. Take a strand of hair, wrap it around the ponytail, and secure with bobby pins to conceal the elastic. Finish by adding hairspray to keep the hairstyle in place.

Reese is so pretty! I swear all she needs is a little blush and eyeliner and she's perfect. I love this high pony on her too. This comment has been removed.
