Red Carpet Looks: Critics' Choice Awards

Lots of Frumpy, but a Few Fancy Looks

I was looking through photos from the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet and I am sad to report that I was disappointed. There was a lot of color, backless gowns, and formal updos, but overall the women looked frumpy. Either the fit was wrong or the dress wasn't the right choice, but I feel confident that Hollywood will get it together before Sunday's Golden Globes.

However, among the red carpet looks I found two that caught my eye. One win of the evening goes to Jennifer Lawrence who appeared earlier in the week in an unflattering dress for the People's Choice Awards. For this red carpet though, she looked striking, poised and confident in all black. With a leather cutout top, sheer train and thick belt, she mixed different textures for a trendy take on a classic black cocktail gown. Her hair was pulled back into a chic chignon and her bright red lips were a great accessory to her look. Her style gave her a long, lean silhouette and she looked stunning.

Marion Cotillard also was one of my favorites in her multi-colored, cap-sleeved dress. This look you could either love or hate, but I thought she pulled it off well because she paired the colorful number with a nude pair of shoes. Even with the busy print, she isn't swallowed up by the look because it is cinched at the waist and the rest of the look, she kept simple. The full, tulle skirt hits right below the knees and the dress to me is fashion forward and feminine. Her hair, which is simple and sleek, looks great because it too doesn't compete with her outfit. And, she was smart to keep her makeup more subdued; otherwise, she would have thrown the balance off for her whole look.

Did you see any red carpet looks at the awards that you liked that I missed? What do you think of my choices?

@GoodFaith Ha, I should write the celebrities a letter with that idea! I hope it's not a preview of things to come the rest of the awards season. I haven't watched Fashion Police yet; wonder what they have to say. This comment has been removed.

Maybe they should fire their stylists & hire you instead. I can't believe the stars looked frumpy for something so important. I mean, a trip to the grocery store, I understand-but NEVER the red carpet. This comment has been removed.
