Natalie Portman knocked it out of the park at the 2012 Academy Awards. The A-list star, who won the coveted Best Actress award at least year’s ceremony, channeled Old Hollywood in a vintage Haute Couture Christian Dior gown. The red, polka-dotted dress looked lovely on Natalie’s petite frame, and, as usual, her makeup was flawless. We’ll walk you through how to get Natalie’s look for yourself.

This ‘50s-inspired look was all about the eyes and mouth. Prep the skin for a smooth makeup application by applying a hydrating moisturizer. Next, use a makeup sponge to apply a lightweight foundation to the entire face, blending well into the neck. Dab concealer over any under-eye circles or blemishes, and use a fluffy brush to apply a sheer, pressed powder.

Natalie is famous for her well-groomed brows. Fill in sparse brows with a pencil or matte eye shadow that is a shade lighter than your natural eyebrow color.

For defined eyes, sweep a light-beige shade across the entire eyelid, blending a little bit past the crease. Next, use a lighter, shimmering shade to highlight the inner corners of the eyes. Smudge the shade along both the upper and lower lash lines. Use a black liner to create a mini cat-eye look, keeping the liner as close to the lash line as possible. Apply a second coat of liner in a purple shade, just above the black line, for a sharp, dramatic look. Two generous coats of black mascara on the top and bottom lashes will make eyes pop.

Use your fingertips to apply a cream blush in a rosy shade to the apples of your cheeks. Blend it up toward the temples.

Draw attention to your pout with a carefully selected shade of red. A lipstick with a pinkish hue is perfect for achieving a bold and bright lip. Apply an even coat of color, blot the lips, and reapply. This will help the lip stain last throughout the evening.

Natalie’s loose waves were a perfect match for her retro-look. Begin by washing your hair with a frizz-fighting shampoo and conditioner. Apply a smoothing serum and create a deep side-part, before blow drying the hair with a round brush. Once the hair is completely dry, divide into small sections and wrap in hot rollers. When the rollers have cooled, remove them from the hair and gently brush through the curls. Style the hair, re-curling any pieces necessary with a large-barreled iron. Mist with a flexible-hold hairspray to ensure that your look will last.
