How to Do Your Makeup Like Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough Makeup Look
Julianne Hough made her silver screen debut last November, playing Georgia in Burlesque. This Friday, we’ll see her take on the role of the Reverend’s daughter in the Paramount Pictures remake of Footloose. After watching her appearances on Dancing with the Stars, there’s no denying Julianne is in great shape. While we can’t tell you how to fake a dancer body, we can help you achieve Julianne’s flirty, feminine look. Makeup artist Lina Hanson gives you a step-by-step guide to recreating the dancing beauty’s summery complexion.

Julianne’s gorgeous bronzed makeup complements her hair color perfectly. To create this look, start out by applying a moisturizer to the face. If you plan on being outside, make sure you apply an SPF over the moisturizer, to protect your skin from damaging UV rays.  Dab some eye cream underneath the eyes, as this will allow the makeup to go on smoother.

Apply a liquid foundation to the face using either your fingertips or a damp sponge. Blend well, and make sure to cover the jaw line and neck, to avoid uneven coloring.  Apply a slightly lighter concealer underneath the eyes to make them appear wider and more awake, like Julianne’s. Fill in your eyebrows with an eyebrow powder, making sure to match the shadow to your brows (a darker color will make your eyes appear smaller, and looks too harsh).

Next, apply a gold shimmer shadow to the eyelids and blend up to the crease. Use a slightly lighter gold shimmer right in the inner corner of the eye.  Apply a black gel liner to the upper lash line—as close to the lash line as possible—using a thin, slanted eye shadow brush. Use a black eye pencil to line the inside rim of your eyes. Trace over the line with the gold eye shadow, and blend it in.

Curl your eyelashes, and then apply a few coats of black mascara to both the upper and lower lashes.  Being a professional dancer, Julianne is no stranger to false lashes. For a more dramatic effect, add a strip of falsies right above your own lashes. Wait until the glue is completely dry before applying a last coat of black mascara.  For a sun-kissed look, sweep a bronzer over the apples of your cheeks, blending up and out to your cheekbones.

Apply a soft, nude, shimmer lip gloss to your lips. Finish the look by sweeping a translucent powder over your face (use a powder brush) to set the makeup. Julianne is always seen with a bounce in her step and a smile on her face—so get out there and strut your stuff!
