Step 1: Deep condition your hair to create a soft, manageable mane.
Some people prefer to style hair that has not been washed the night before—but if your hair tends to get greasy if you skip a day, make sure to wash the night before. I like using Neutrogena’s Triple Recovery hair mask to keep my hair soft, glossy and tangle-free.
Step 2: Apply a styling product to towel-dried hair.
This is an important step, as it will help maintain the style and keep your curls in place. I love Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger Mousse. A little really goes a long way with this product, which helps both condition and style the hair! Dry your hair with a blow dryer to get it ready for styling. After your hair is dry, part your hairline.
Step 3: Section the top half of your hair, secure in place, and begin styling the bottom half.
Begin with 1-inch sections and curl with a 1 ½-inch curling iron. As you curl each section of hair, bring it back up into a curl and bobby pin at the top (near the roots).
Step 4: Repeat this motion as you work through the rest of your hair.
Be sure to curl in the same direction with your iron, as it will create the uniform undulating waves characteristic of this look.
Step 5: Once you finish styling all the curls have cooled, take out the bobbi pins to let your hair down.
Use a paddle brush to soften the style to the desired level of curl and spritz a holding spray to lock the style. Mist a shine serum over your hair, and you’ll have a gorgeously high-shine look that will make you the spotlight of any occasion!
