How to Do Your Makeup Like Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn Makeup
If you want to pass for a modern day Holly Golightly, you'll need sass, class and naivety (the latter is just an act enhanced by innocent-looking doe eyes). The real Audrey Hepburn was effortlessly demure and supremely glamorous; she knew how to make an entrance. In a pinch, a pearl or diamond necklace, snazzy clutch and enormous sunglasses will help you look the part. As for makeup, use these tips to look like Audrey Hepburn or try on Audrey Hepburn makeup in our virtual makeup studio.

Audrey's is one of the few makeup looks where there’s an emphasis on thick, polished eyebrows. Widen yours with a pencil that matches your natural color, followed by powder to minimize your natural arch. Brow stencils will help you achieve symmetry if you don't have a steady hand.

Create the illusion of wide, almond-shaped eyes like Audrey with a beige shadow, swept allover both lids. Deep brown liquid liner should be applied in one continuous stroke (becoming thicker and winged at the outer corners). If you’re up to the task, you can wear whole strips of false eyelashes. The trick is to cut off a bit of the length first and apply them as close to the lashline as possible with tweezers. Let the lash glue dry for a few minutes before applying several coats of dark brown lengthening mascara.

In the 1950s, the naïf look was de rigeur. That said, gel or cream blush should be applied directly to the apples of the cheeks (smile to locate yours), which creates a youthful, blushing appearance. Powder blush, applied with a blush brush, gives the softest Audrey Hepburn-inspired effect.

Lips should be matte instead of glossy and your cupid’s bow deserves maximum definition. Put a bit of liquid highlighter in the crease that connects your lips and nose to call attention to your kisser. --Stephanie Simons

I just noticed that her brows are not super arched. Most women over-arch their eyebrows, and it really gives them that lifted, constantly surprised looking face. Audrey Hepburn's brows, in contrast, are relatively straight and thick. This comment has been removed.

Love this look! It's really all about full brows, lining the upper lash line, and lots of mascara. This comment has been removed.
